What drives Asian markets at the beginning of the session

Shares in the Asia-Pacific region rose on Tuesday.

Shares of Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group jumped 10.42% after the company announced on Monday a plan to repurchase shares to one trillion yen ($ 8.83 billion). SoftBank reported a net loss of 398 billion yen ($ 3.5 billion) in the three-month period ended Sept. 30 on Monday.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.13% while Topix traded flat.

Shares in mainland China were higher, with Shanghai Composite gaining 0.46% while Shenzhen Component added 0.402%. Hang Seng was trading at 0.63% higher.

South Korean Kospi fell 0.2%. In Australia, the S&P / ASX 200 fell 0.17%.

MSCI’s broadest Asia-Pacific equity index outside of Japan is trading 0.38% higher.

The Japanese yen traded at 113.13 per dollar, stronger than the levels above 113.5 seen in yesterday’s session. The Australian dollar is trading around $ 0.7403.
