The retreat from palladium, which delivered the best return of 34 raw materials tracked by Bloomberg in 2017, has become a stampede. Palladium fell below its 100-day moving average Thursday amid a wider drop in precious metals, triggering sell orders. The commodity used to curb pollution from vehicles took an additional hit as most major carmakers posted steeper U.S. sales declines than analysts expected for February, dimming palladium’s demand prospects and sending its price to the biggest daily loss in more than a year.
