Poland’s Massive Gold Purchase Could Shake Up Metal Prices

The central bank of Poland has approved a plan to acquire up to 150 tons of gold, strengthening the country’s position as the world’s largest officially declared state buyer. This accelerates the reserve strategy and could place Poland among the top ten countries globally with the largest gold holdings.

Currently, the bank’s reserves stand at 550 tons, following a record increase of 100 tons in 2025. The new purchase would raise total gold reserves to approximately 700 tons, which at current market prices amounts to around $112.5 billion. This would position Poland among the countries with the highest concentration of gold relative to total reserves, with gold representing about 38% of the nation’s total assets.

Pressure on gold prices is expected to continue, as the central bank plans to increase the limit of state gold reserves to 700 tons. This will support higher gold prices and reinforce its role as a strategic reserve asset amid rising geopolitical and financial uncertainty.
