13F: Warren Buffett adds Domino’s Pizza to Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio.

Warren Buffett’s company, Berkshire Hathaway, bought a new stake in Domino’s Pizza during the last quarter, according to a regulatory filing released on Thursday. The Omaha-based holding company purchased over 1.2 million shares of the pizza chain for a stake valued at around $550 million as of the end of September. Due to its small size in Berkshire’s portfolio, the investment may have been made by Buffett’s investment aides, Ted Weschler and Todd Combs. Domino’s stock surged more than 8% in after-hours trading following the news. The world’s largest pizza chain failed to meet Wall Street’s forecasts for same-store sales growth in the US during the third quarter, as competition for cost-conscious customers continues to rise. Domino’s shares have lagged behind the broader market this year, increasing only by 6%. The S&P 500 has risen nearly 25% in 2024.

Purchased stake in Pool Corp. and sales of Ulta
Berkshire also bought a small stake in pool supplier Pool Corp. during the last quarter. The shares in the company were valued at around $152 million as of the end of the third quarter. This may be another value-driven investment, given that Pool’s shares have decreased by 10% this year. Also, during the third quarter, Buffett’s holding company almost completely sold off its new investment in Ulta, unloading about 97% of the shares. Berkshire had bought these shares during the second quarter. Ulta’s shares rose by just 0.8% in the third quarter, after a 26% decline in the previous period.

Sales of Berkshire’s leading stakes in Apple and Bank of America were announced earlier. Most of its large investments remained unchanged during the last quarter.
