Headline annual inflation is expected to ease slightly to 3.6%, down from 3.7% in January. However, this remains an elevated level that will offer little comfort to the Bank of England (BoE). Meanwhile, overall annual inflation is projected to remain unchanged at 3.0%. With the pressure from energy inflation subsiding, the inflation outlook for the UK this year remains challenging.
The monthly figures illustrate this, with both the headline and core inflation indices expected to show a 0.5% increase on a monthly basis. One of the Bank of England’s main areas of focus is services inflation, which remains persistently high and is expected to hold around 5% later today.
