Wall Street has been experiencing something of a youth wave as large and powerful financial firms become more comfortable putting people who are under the age of 30 in positions that used to be reserved for older traders, bankers and dealmakers.
The rising stars of finance play important roles at big banks like Goldman Sachs, sprawling private equity firms like Blackstone Group, and high-profile hedge funds like Pershing Square Capital Management.
But an increasing number of young entrepreneurs are also impacting the financial services world by launching new technology companies, like IEX Group and SoFi, shaking up the way financial markets function and capital is allocated.
For example, Vladimir Tenev, 28, cofounded Robinhood in 2013 to offer commission free stock trading through a sleek mobile app. Since launching in the App Store in December 2014, Robinhood has executed more than $2 billion in trades mostly for the 30 and under set. Robinhood has raised $66 million of funding from investors including Google Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.
