Investors with $1 million to deploy today are navigating an environment of shifting central bank policies and heightened geopolitical risks. Nevertheless, experienced strategists emphasize that the path forward is clearer than it seems: stay invested, diversify, and focus on structural trends such as industrial spending and high-quality bonds.
Where can investors allocate $1 million today?
CNBC Pro gathers insights from seasoned managers who provide recommendations based on varying risk levels.
Moderate-Risk Investors: Betting on Multi-Asset Strategies
For balanced profiles, Citi Wealth recommends full portfolio exposure, relying on sustainable earnings growth and a capital expenditure cycle driven by artificial intelligence.
According to Louis Chi Min, Head of Investment Advisory for South Asia, a suitable structure for a $1 million portfolio is:
- 60% equities
- 37% bonds
- 2% commodities (such as gold)
- 1% cash

The equities in the recommended allocation include 38% U.S. large-cap stocks, 13% from developed markets outside the U.S., and 9% from emerging markets. Citi also sees a slight overweight in Europe and China, as capital gradually expands beyond the U.S. market.
The AI theme remains central: Min describes artificial intelligence as “the most significant structural trend of our time” and expects that the combination of technological growth and looser monetary policy will support returns, despite valuation risks.
Chris Fasciano, Chief Market Strategist at Commonwealth Financial Network, also adheres to a 60/40 framework but sees room for greater exposure to U.S. equities, particularly large tech companies. He emphasizes that after years of dominance by a limited number of companies, the moment has come for broader diversification.
International markets are also beginning to attract attention: Europe is entering a cycle of rearmament and infrastructure investment.
For More Aggressive Investors: More Stocks and Even More AI
Investors with higher risk tolerance can increase equity and thematic exposures, including AI and technology. Citi also recommends considering structured products or private markets as a tool to enhance returns.
David G. Dietze of Dietze Wealth Management believes the most aggressive investors could even justify up to 100% equity exposure.
AlTi Global, which primarily serves ultra-high-net-worth investors, recommends expanded alternatives. CIO Nancy Curtin proposes a framework of:
- 40% equities
- 30% bonds
- 20% private credit
- 10% cash
She expects generative AI to support a long innovation cycle and believes such periods typically sustain higher valuations and prolonged bull markets. Curtin also forecasts a “boom in U.S. reindustrialization and capital expenditures.” She advises investors to expand exposure beyond mega-tech companies—to industrials, healthcare, logistics, and emerging markets.
Private credit remains a key component, offering higher yields than public bonds—but managers should be selected carefully due to rising restructuring risk.
Curtin also sees a role for real assets as an inflation hedge: around 5% gold, 5% cash, and about 1% Bitcoin for younger investors.
More Conservative Investors: Stability Through Bonds and Dividends
Conservative portfolios prioritize income and quality. Citi recommends a higher allocation to bonds and dividend-paying stocks with strong balance sheets and stable earnings.
Dietze supports this view, noting that vigilant investors should avoid high-yield (junk) bonds and focus on quality debt instruments with maturities under five years. For taxable U.S. investors, he recommends municipal bonds.
The most reliable buffer against volatility remains cash, providing immediate liquidity. In his model, the portfolio looks like this:
- 70% equities
- 25% fixed income
- 5% cash
Regarding sectors, Dietze points to compelling value opportunities in energy. He notes that producers remain undervalued as focus shifts toward nuclear and electricity while fossil fuel prices decline. According to him, lower interest rates will stimulate the economy and energy demand.
Despite recession risks and tariff fluctuations, the core advice is clear:
Do not overreact to political events and stay invested.
As strategists say—stocks can still rise during a recession if investors anticipate better conditions ahead, supported by accommodative policy.
